Thermomix is the most talked about cooking gadget in the 21st century.  If you are a busy mum or a mum who has no idea how to cook but would like to prepare healthy delicious food for your family, this expensive gadget will be a great investment for you. It cost about $2089.

But the good news is you can pay in 3 easy instalments and it comes with 2 years warranty. They are well made in Germany.  I own a TM31 the older model since 2010 and it has not missed a beat. The newer model is called TM5. Here are some of the differences between TM31 and TM5:

a) The body of TM 5 is a lot bigger. Therefore it can be cumbersome. It is 10% bigger in the mixing bowl and varoma. It has a beautiful coloured touch screen and it comes with a recipe chip with only a few recipes.

b) TM31 is more streamlined. It has buttons and a speed selectors.

In my opinion, there is no reason why we should dump TM31 out and buy TM5 because there is no difference in functionality and the end product will be the same.

I would like to share a simple recipe for quiche. It is a salmon mixed peas quiche.

Ingredients

Shortcrust Pastry

400g plain flour

200g butter

1/2 teaspoon of salt

60g of iced water

Fillings

3 cloves garlic

1 brown onion

3 eggs

200g cream

100g cheese

1/4 teaspoon of pepper

1/2 teaspoon of salt

2 pieces of 250g salmon fillets

250g of mixed peas

Methods

Preheat oven to 200 degrees Celcius

Place plain flour, butter and salt into TM mixing bowl and mix them for 10 seconds on speed 6.

Then add water and mix a further 10 seconds on speed 6 to form a rough dough and add water as necessary to bind.

Next turn the mixture onto floured ThermoMat and knead it well.

Finally, wrap the dough with a cling wrap and chill in the fridge.

Use pastry to line a well-greased pie tin. Don’t forget to prick pastry base with a fork and bake for 20 minutes or until golden in colour.

Subsequently, remove pastry from the oven and lower the oven temperature to 180 degrees Celcius.

Now we are going to make the fillings of the quiche. Place the garlic and onion into the TM mixing bowl to chop for 10 seconds on speed 5. Scrape down and add the rest of the ingredients to mix for 10 seconds on speed 4.

Pour in the fillings into the pastry and bake for about 45 minutes or until the top of the quiche is firmed.
